GeoAI at ESA Conference<\/h4>\n<\/div>

Ljubljana, January 30, 1. 2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>

Between January 26 and 30, 2026, the ESA PolInSAR Biomass 2026 conference took place in Ljubljana, organized by the European Space Agency ESA in collaboration with the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering of the University of Ljubljana (UL FGG) and the Slovenian Space Office at the Ministry of Economy. Over 200 conference participants from around the world learned about the latest research achievements and challenges in Earth observation brought by new technologies and especially new data from the Biomass satellite, which is part of ESA’s Earth Explorer program.<\/p>\n

Members of the GeoAI project team, coordinated by Prof. Dr. Kri\u0161tof O\u0161tir,<\/em> participated as organizers and active participants in this important scientific event, whose central theme was the use of Biomass satellite data for forest monitoring. The satellite data will be important for monitoring forest biomass, climate research, sustainable forest management, and supporting international agreements such as REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) and UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change). Although the satellite is still in the calibration phase, it has already sent the first images of forests and other ecosystems around the world. Initial results confirm great potential for new insights into carbon stocks, climate change, and ecosystem status.<\/p>\n
